Telling Stories with iMovie

In Mrs. Keisker’s Reading class at GMS, students were working on writing their own stories to study the different elements of a plot.  They wrote their stories out and then drew a unique picture that represented the main character.

The next step was to translate that story into an iMovie trailer by picking a trailer that matched the overall theme, finding pictures that corresponded with it, and then summarizing the text to create a book trailer.

Students were engaged throughout the entire process in finding pictures that matched not only their story, but also the overall theme that they wanted to present to the viewer.  They also spent quite a bit of time helping one another with the ins-and-outs of iMovie so that Mrs. Keisker could provide extra assistance to those who needed it.

The students were excited to share their iMovies with the other students and can't wait to create another one soon!

Also, here's a shoutout to Mr. Levy who created Grandview Middle School's first ever Sound Gallery! Students used the GarageBand app to create a unique piece of music that demonstrated their understanding of AB form.  Then, Mr. Levy took those creations and displayed them as QR codes outside his room that played the studets’ creations when scanned!  Take a listen to one student's work that went above and beyond the assignment expectations!
