What is Blogger?
Blogger is a blog publishing service that allows users with a Google account to create online journals that are accessible to anyone on the web. Blogs are great tools for:
- Reflecting
- Having informal discussions
- Sharing resources
- Practicing writing (vocabulary, grammar, paragraph structure, etc.)
- Storytelling
How do I create an account?
Teachers and students in the Grandview C-4 School District already have an account set up on Blogger using their Grandview Google login credentials. Follow the instructions below to activate your Blogger account:
- Go to www.blogger.com
- Log in using your Grandview C-4 Google account
- Confirm your profile by clicking the orange 'Continue to Blogger' button
Setting Up a Blog
Once signed in to Blogger, you will use the following steps to create your first blog:
*This step may require several tries as many blog names are already taken!
- Click the New Blog button
- Give your blog a title (if using Blogger with students, you may want to consider a naming convention)
- Create a unique web address for your blog (eg. yournameyoursubject.blogspot.com)*
- Select a template for your blog
- Click Continue
- If you get a pop-up to find a domain name, simply click no thanks

Posting to your Blog
From the main menu of Blogger, you'll want to select the orange pencil icon next to your blog name.
- Create a title for your post
- Add text, images/video, web links, and more to your post
- Once finished editing, you can select Preview to see how it will actually appear on your blog or you can click Publish to make it public. If you need to come back to a post, simply click the Save button to save a draft and continue editing later.
Changing the Viewing/Privacy of your Blog
1. From the main menu of Blogger, click on your blog to open it.
2. In the menu on the left hand side, select Settings.
3. Locate the Permissions section and then the Blog Readers section. Note that your Blogger blog defaults to public which means that anyone can find and view your blog. Click the Edit button to open the reader settings.
4. Click the bubble next to Private - Only these readers. Then, select the +Add readers button. Type in the email addresses of the people you wish to share your blog with and then click Save changes. Those people who you add to the Readers section will receive an email to confirm their access.
